Some days I wonder why I am even called a teacher. Did I do that today? They don't tell you about all of that "other stuff". Like today! It was one of those days. I would vent more about it, but I am going to keep it classy and just proceed with the kind of stuff most of the world thinks I do! :) (While repeating "13 more days, 13 more days" in my head over and over again!)
Last week we did a unit on measurement. Since first grade is big on non-standard units of measuring, we decided to find our height in not only feet and inches, but also paperclips, cubes, glue sticks, and pencils. First, I let the children trace a partner on a piece of bulletin board paper. Next, they got to decorate it to make it look "just like" themselves.
They were so cute and took personalizing their art so seriously. After they were done creating their masterpiece, we got right to measuring.
I had a worksheet made for them to fill in their answers. It was a fun math week in room 505!
